630th Post - The Art of the Insult

You older readers may remember Dick Cavett. I have always found him a witty man, and in today's New York Times he writes a column on the art of the insult. Go ahead and read it.

I have been insulted more than a few times in my life. I am trying to think of a time it was done in a witty, bon vivant, manner and am coming up short. I worked with a guy for 10 years who was routinely insulting, even cruel, to his co-workers. He spared me not at all. One time, after I had had my follicles shorn, he came up to me and said, "Boy, I hope you didn't pay much for that hair cut!". He always called me "Boy".

This is the same jaunty fellow who once threatened to plant marijuana cigarettes in my desk and call the police.. And who would say, "Goodnight, children" as he left for the evening.

Not very funny.
