786th Post - It Takes Class

I don't know how many of you have seen the 2004 film "Catwoman", starring Halle Berry. It is not a very good film. In fact, it is so bad that it was nominated for all kinds of Razzie Awards a few months later. Berry herself, just a few years after winning for best Actress for "Monster's Ball", was nominated for Worst Actress for her performance in "Catwoman".

And she won! Or lost, if you want to look at it that way.

Most people who win these awards don't want to acknowledge it in any way, shape, or form. But Halle Berry actually showed up to accept her award.

I have found a somewhat edited version of her acceptance speech. Here it is:

I have to admit that I respected her for doing this. The Hollywood hype machine is such that every film that comes out is marketed as a masterpiece, even though many of them suck big time. One of the suckiest films of 2004, or any year for that matter, was "Catwoman". We saw it at the cottage a couple of years ago, and it was a surreal experience. We were amazed by how stupid it was.

Watching Berry accept this award helps explain some of the problems with this film. If there is ever a special edition of the dvd, with an audio commentary or two that's truthful about how cruddy the movie is, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. It would be much more entertaining to listen to it than the film could ever be.

More later depending on my schedule.
