983rd Post - What Will I Do?

Didn't do much today. I was too upset over the terrible news I learned on Friday night. On Saturday, I was too busy with my parents to give it much thought. Today, however, the thought came rushing to the fore, and I have been unable to push this horrible, horrible reality out of my fevered brain.

The Tim Horton's at the corner of Barrington and Sackville Street in downtown Halifax is closing later on this week!

Been going there for a few years now, ever since I started this new job.

Oh, sure, there was flirtation with other coffee shops in that block. There are a couple others. But they were chaste visitations, like kissing your sister during a holiday while her husband is watching. You know what I mean.

We always came back to the Tim's, though, for our twice daily coffee breaks. Kevin presides over our motley crew. His rapier wit and sardonic comments leave the rest of us gasping with laughter and delight. Sometimes, all he does is raise an eyebrow and we squirt our Double Doubles through our nostrils. We are in awe of his ability to command our attention.

After Thursday, our breaks will continue, as they must. But it will not be the same. Kevin's lips will quiver in sadness. His eye will twinkle less gladly. And it may take him a bit longer to come up with that riposte. The Tim's at Barrington and Sackville inspired him; the other local shops will be foreign to him and to us, and it will take some time to adjust.

R.i.P., the downtown Tim Horton's!!! You will never know what you meant to us.
