Post 1833 - Christmas Tie 2011 - Day Two

Welcome to the second day of the 4th Annual Bevboy's Christmas Tie Extravaganza.

Try as you might, you cannot draw your eyes away from these terrible pictures.  I wouldn't blame you if, after reading this post, you gouged your eyes out.  But fear not, effendi: There are worse fates than reading these blog posts.  You could always, um, er, well, we'll think of something.

These pictures, and 10 more just like them, were taken at Maritime Centre in downtown Halifax this morning, around 7:25.  Patricia works in that building, and I used to work about a 5 minute walk from there until I was shunted across town to where I am now.  But I digress.

These pics were taken just outside the food court in Maritime Centre, which is right next to this little shrine for the theatre which used to be in that spot.

I don't have much to add, except for a funny story I once heard on the radio, probably Stan Carew's Weeekend Mornings, and probably two or three years ago.  That movie theatre was there for decades and also hosted concerts.  One time, in the late 1960's, Neil Diamond was booked to play there.   Yes, Neil Diamond has played Halifax on at least one occasion.

The management brain trust didn't bother to remove the name of the movie Diamond supplanted for that evening, opting to give the public the impression that a movie was playing that night and not a live performer.

Neil Diamond clearly wasn't happy that his name wasn't on the marquee.  He walks on stage and announces to the audience, "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.  I'm Cool Hand Luke".

It all happened just a few meters from where I was standing this morning.

Decades later, someone in the audience that evening called in to Stan Carew's show and told that story, and I'm passing it along to you.

You're welcome.

I do this because I love you.  I hope you know that.

See you tomorrow.
