Post 3321 - Thursday

Past 11pm.

I did survive my dental appointment this morning. My dental hygienist is a great guy. I like and respect him. But I always feel like crap when I leave there because he is always pointing out the areas where I am deficient in my teeth management and care. I try hard, and fail every time. Reminds me of my early dating experiences.

I didn't mean to spend the last 2.5 hours working on my latest true crime column for Frank, but I did. I wanted to highlight something in an image, with an arrow, so I fired up Gimp, the linux-based image editor. People swear by Gimp. I was swearing at it. I couldn't figure out how to do much of anything with it, and it did not natively support the simple thing I wanted to do. (What is a "layer" in drawing programs, anyway?) I kept downloading simpler applications, finally finding one called Kolourpaint. It is nearly as basic as the Paint program that comes with Windows, which is to say, it is simple enough for me to use. It didn't support drawing an arrow on the image, so out of desperation and a sense of wanting to get it the frig over with, I just selected the paint tool and changed the colour of the part of the image I wanted to highlight, to red. I sent that image off to my editor. He has the original, so he can get one of his staff to do what I was hoping to do, using Photoshop, which damn well does support the drawing of arrows on images!

The weekend is nearly here, and I am looking forward to it. I will only have 4 days of work next week before we go on 2 weeks of vacation. Can hardly wait.

It is pushing 11:30. I have to get up for work in a scant 6 hours. I think I will turn in.

See you tomorrow.
